I’m back on a train.
This time it’s an inland train from Göteborg to Stockholm.
It’s a much more familiar landscape and it doesn’t feel as ‘wasteful’ if I look away.
I love cows but I don’t ‘need’ to look at every cow in a herd. I love the trees but, again, I don’t need to look at them all individually…
It’s much more relaxing, knowing I’m very unlikely to miss something exceptional. Not seeing a cow is a lot different to not seeing a whale or a moose or a bear. Not seeing every haybale isn’t the same as not seeing the waterfalls.
I can let my mind wander more here without berating myself afterwards. I can write. Look up and watch a lake go by, look away again. Look at pictures, sort my luggage, make silly faces at the baby in the seat in front of me.. If I wasn’t so damn tired I might even be productive 🤭
Some fields. Different but very similar.
